About our research

Our research works include study of Gravitational Waves (GWs) in different modified theories of gravity. In General Relativity, GWs are massless, transverse and traceless in nature. There are two polarization modes of GWs in General Relativity. They are tensor plus and cross modes of polarizations of GWs. However, recent studies show that in modified theories of gravity polarization modes may change depending on the type of modifications imposed. A promising extension of General Relativity is f(R) gravity where instead of Ricci scalar, R, the Lagrangian of the theory is proportional to a function of R. In f(R) gravity metric formalism, there are three degrees of freedom associated with the theory and the number of polarization modes at weak field regime is three viz., tensor plus, tensor cross and massive scalar modes of polarization. The massive scalar mode is actually a mixed polarization mode and it consists of massless transverse breathing mode and massive longitudinal mode. In the paper Gravitational Waves in f (R) Gravity Power Law Model, Indian Journal of Physics 96, 637 (2022) , we have studied polarization modes of GWs in f(R) gravity metric formalism and shown that for a special case of the model, we can have massless breathing scalar modes of GWs with non-vanishing trace as a third polarization mode of GWs at weak field regime. It is only case in f(R) gravity metric formalism where GW is completely massless in nature. This work was followed by the paper A new f (R) Gravity Model and properties of Gravitational Waves in it, Eur. Phys. J. C 80, 1101 (2020) , in which we have introduced a new dark energy f(R) gravity model and studied the polarization modes in metric formalism. We have constrained the model using GW event GW170817 and studied the possibility of massive GWs using Pulsar Timing Array data. We have also seen that the model behaves well in the solar system regime and is free from general stability issues.

We have also studied the black hole solutions and quasinormal modes of GWs in different modified theories of gravity. In the work, Quasinormal Modes of Black Holes with Non-Linear-Electrodynamic sources in Rastall Gravity, Physics of the Dark Universe, 100860 (2021), we have studied the quasinormal modes of a non-linearly charged black hole surrounded by dark energy fields in Rastall gravity. A similar study was done in the paper Quasinormal Modes of Non-Linearly Charged Black Holes surrounded by a Cloud of Strings in Rastall Gravity, arXiv:2111.00854 (2021), where we have introduced a new non-linearly charged black hole solution and compared it with the well-known Ayón-Beato-García (ABG) black hole.

We have also studied the cosmological implications of the new f(R) gravity model (known as Gogoi-Goswami f(R) gravity model) introduced by us in Palatini formalism and constrained it using Observed Hubble Data (OHD) in the paper Cosmology with a new f(R) gravity model in Palatini formalism, arXiv:2108.01409 (2021), which has been accepted for publication in IJMPD.
